Sometimes it’s cheapest to find the lowest cost transatlantic flight from a US gateway to London and then take a discount carrier to your final European destination. Sign up for low fare alerts with British Airways, Virgin Atlantic, Icelandic, American, Continental, Lufthansa, Air France, etc. If you end up in London Heathrow for example, you just need to take the bus (or train) to Gatewick, Stansted or Luton to catch a cheap flight to Berlin. Ryanair, Easyjet, Air Berlin are possibilities. If you get a cheap transatlantic flight into Frankfurt or Munich, you can try Air Berlin or dba airlines to get to the capital. Not all the discount carriers are available on or so you may want to check them out individually.
