It’s a flattering large universe – with so most places to explore, a hardest partial can be selecting where to go. Some operate a internet for inspiration. Some pick up transport magazines. Some cite a thick manual upon their nightstand, though we wish to know what functions for you. Tell us what helps we devise a good vacation.

word of mouth (talking to people that have already gone to the destination), the internet, and advice from locals when I get to my destination. Often times I find cool ideas from the wall of brochures in the hotel’s entryway.
Honestly, I just kind of think about what I’m looking for: beach, mountains, hiking, shopping or whatever and I ask here on answers. A lot of people have a lot of experiences to base their opinions on and answer pretty honestly.
I also read all sorts of books with travel short story collections.
After I get a few ideas, I like going to the bookstore to check out the travel books or check out virtualtourist.com

I buy a Fodor’s or some other travel guide. When I plan trips to places here in the U.S., Mediterranean, or Europe I send for travel guides from places like Aer Lingus or British Airways. I go to the library and get travelogue videos.I read and watch and WRITE DOWN what sounds good – things I’d like to see and do. Then I get out a map of the area and plot my trip, and research B&Bs and inns and hotels and plan how many days I need to stay at each to see all of the things that I’d like to see and do in that area.
My wife and different hard rocks so we normally plan our trips to baseball parks and enjoy going to see things along with purpose my wife and different hard rocks so we normally plan our.
I love the warm weather places.. Growing up and living in San Diego most of my life and living in Alaska for a few years convinced me to NEVER want to be in the cold again.
So, I look for the warm climate places like the Islands and Mexico.
The places I prefer to go to are full service resorts that still have not caught the tourists eye.
Yes, there are still places that are not in the major cities that have a more quiet atmosphere and plenty of things to do besides reading and basking in the sun.
The best way to know where they are is to listen to friends who slip away every year for a holiday. Or magazines like Sunset and also a few books that you can buy at the AAA club.
I only book flights on the Internet.. I feel that speaking to a voice for my hotel accommodations works better.
At least you have someone to blame if you get there and it isn’t what they promised … Like the ocean front room or the cruise ship with the balcony.
Its been many years since I have had a holiday so I have lost touch. If I were to have the time and money to travel now I might check the airlines to see if there is a package deal that would be fun in the sun and at a great price.
One of these days that day will come! I can hardly wait….

I used to religiously watch the show “Wild On”, which aired on E! Entertainment Television. It really dug deep into the shopping, dining, and club scenes of really exotic places (Taiwan) to more common (need I add, affordable) ones, such as Miami. Not only that, but the show dug into the resort/hotel department, as well as beaches or any more natural earthy aspects of the particular location. Festivals and/or native traditions were covered too. It really gave the viewer (without bias to different walks of life) a terrific idea of what to expect and where to go once on vacation. So, basically for myself I’d have to say television. Nothing can compare to the depth of perception one receives of a potential vacation spot’s ins and outs better than raw captured footage and narration to boot!
as far as internet resources:
1)I love sidestep.com for comparing prices of flights!
2)tripadvisor.com is really a one-stop resource for information about different areas, hotel reviews, etc.
As far as books go, I LOVE LOVE LOVE the “eye witness travel” books. They’re thorough, laid out well, have a lot of pictures, and usually inclide maps.
well lets see I been in an airplane when I was lil but have never up in the air in a plane. I have only had 1 vacation and that was to worlds of fun 2 summers ago. if I could get a trip to somewhere and it didnt cost me; I would go to hawaii and I would love to take our 3 sons with us. but that isnt gonna happen any time soon so I will dream on.
Best place in the world is to visit your local travel agent for expert advice.
There are few places left today where service is number one. Protecting you against airline corporate rules and regulations. Delta being one of the worst.

I use the Internet, I use word of mouth from people I trust, and I MIGHT use resources I see on TV. I tend to “over-research” sometimes, but my family has always had good trips when the trips are planned carefully.
first+i+check+with+expedia.com+and+plan+from+there.
For naught if you cant get there because the flights are full.
i imagine a place that has what i want to experience next. my next trip is in hawaii because i want to be in the warm weather instead of the fog in monterey. i get my inspiration from outside mag and the travel channel for other ideas.
Any one of the many great online websites, like Orbitz, Priceline, or Travelocity, that provide the latest information about the cost of the trip.
Also any of the online guides for traveling that also describe the country and let a traveler know that it is a safe place to go to, like LonelyPlanet.com.
You can also use a search engine, like Yahoo!. Type in the name of the nation or nations you’ll be going to, hit enter, and the search engine brings up a list of all the best websites about that country, usually including the official website of the country itself. These websites have links to other related websites for that region of the world, providing more than enough information for your travel plans.
There’s also the Travel Channel, where you can watch and virtually follow a host to just about anywhere people go in the world.
And these are a few important sources of information that I use to help me plan a great vacation.
Television programs that focus on unusual destinations are always a good start. Weekend newspapers “travel sections” are helpful with more popular destinations. Word of mouth is a good guide, and magazines like “National Geographic” are excellent if your looking for really out of the way places.
Next step is the computer, and finally checking with Government Departments for updates on destinations and any travel warnings.
I use Delta Airline. They have such a range of destinations and hotels to choose from, it make things so easy!!
Just joking, I live in Australia. When we plan to go somewhere, I like doing the hard work myself going around on the internet getting flights, accom and seeing where we can go for sightseeing. I prefer it that way. If we go overseas, then we do all of that then go to the travel agents and see what they can do to match or beat the price on what we find.
My dad had to go to Sweden 2 years ago. We found Malaysian Airlines to be the cheapest and seen that the travel agent could not match that price, they booked it for us at that price!!!
I like doing the hard work…pays off in te long run and its piece of mind knowing that you are just about guaranteed to get what you booked when you or your travel agent does it!
I never really get to pick where to go when it come to vacationing. I dont really mind, a vacation is a vacation! I will have a good time no matter where i go.

I usually already have an idea of where I want to go from somewhere in my youth. I can’t pinpoint the time or place I realized I wanted to visit the places I want to visit. Over time I’ve narrowed it down to more specific places by watching television, either movies or the news. (Like I don’t know when I decided I wanted to go to the Carribean but recently read online about a natural reserve on one of the US Virgin Islands and I would like to support keeping a place like that in business, plus it has lots of wild forests and pristine beaches and is very remote too). Current events play a big role but I find history and culture to be of greater importance. is the best site for buying plane tickets for a well planned trip is the best for a spur of the moment trip
sas christmas calendar is the best for a spring time trip to anywhere they fly
Early of the year I list down places I want to go & places my friends been too. Then I narrow it down with what is best & start to double confirm using the internet. Internet is a great source since as long as I have the connection I can browse anytime, anywhere I want. Magazines also help specially if the place have been picture as an article.

Well i just wrote about a page on this question and accidentally hit the back button, but the bottom line is…a memorable vacation. Being in marketing, this is clearly a way to get further insight on how to change your brand image and product position and honestly…I like it. I’m going to give you a straight forward answer that probably no-one else will because of the stagnant airline industry. Start partnering up with companies that airlines wouldn’t traditionally partner with. Its the only way to differentiate yourself. To whoever posted this question…here’s a great idea…partner with a place like priceline and have a deal where you give priceline a higher return but a vacation package that also gives you a higher return because of your hotel/car rental/etc. partnerships. Good luck.
On a side note…make seats more comfortable/enjoyable. Take a look at Lufthansa’s international biz class. It puts most domestic 1st’s to shame.
I use a map and the computer to plan my road trips. The absolute last thing I will do is get on an airplane. Not for fear of a terrorist act, but from fear of bad service, long lines, high fares and a generally poor experience.
Thanks, but I will drive…..

Lonely Planet Guidebook – it’s all you really need!
I’m going on my first-ever trip to Disneyworld and researching over the web has paid off. Planning is crucial, specially if you want to save your hard-earned cash. Since my departure date was very close to Christmas, at first I decided to go with the local travel agents to get me a full package, no hassle on my side. As I continued to do my own research on the Internet, the experience of other travellers proved to be of utmost importance and doing the reservations of flight tickets + hotel has saved me up to U$S 1000. So, my advice is: do your homework and it will pay off (and -as a bonus- you get your trip customized to your liking).

i like internet and going to Borders books. i like the foder’s guides / other travel books. i will spend a couple hours and read / compare the recommendations. if i think the book worthwhile, i will purchase it. i usually buy one book per trip. usually when i come back from the trip , i’ll review the book again as i like to see if the recommendations /reviews are the same as i experienced. conde nast (not sure spelling is correct) has a travel magazine. good photographs / but i don’t find the content too helpful.
I use to search the Internet Tourism sites and often ask to friends.

When I have planned my vacations I have read and reread the itinerary, and also all the fine print that nobody wants to read in the back of the brochure about cancellations and so forth. I’ve found information there that allowed me to to extend my overseas trip at little cost. By combining a first class escorted tour with a freestyle tour I was able to extend my European vacation by another week. All because I discovered you can extend a tour by one day taking advantage of the reduced room rate offered to the tour company. This was necessary because most overseas tours show day one as in route to the destination.
.
I’ve never had to buy cancellation insurance but my wife’s sister was glad she did when he husband suffered chest pains and was hospitalized less than a week before they were schedules to leave on a European tour.
.
Top of the line guide books like Michelin are a valuable tool especially on any unescorted tour and of course Internet maps and websites can be invaluable as are emergency phone numbers you can print out and take with you. On line research into each hotel you’ll be staying at and maps of the areas around them can save time when you get there. If you have a choice of hotels, finding our how close or how far it is from different attractions can result in a savings in travel time and cost.
